Did you know there are several types of candle wax? Here is a few of the most popular ones. Beeswax: Made from honey bees. It is natural sweet scent that burns slowly and smokeless. This is not a mold type wax. Rolling is the best way to make candles. comes in various colors. Paraffin wax is the most commonly used wax for making candles. It is made by crude oil. Paraffin comes in different grades and the melting point for candles is 145 to 150 degrees. Then you have the Soy wax. Soy wax mixes well with essential oils and dyes, and produces the least amount of bubbles. Here is some helpful hints with melting waxes. Use a microwave or double boiler. Once you pour your wax into molds spritz with rubbing alcohol. This will get rid of any bubbles that forms.
You can find paraffin wax anywhere and ususally is sold in a rectangular box. Usually comes four to six slabs. Take four slabs and set aside. Take one to two and break up into double boiler. Melt on medium to low heat. Once melted remove from heat. Take a little of the liquid and put down on one slab and set your wick and the other slab on top. Must move quickly before it hardens. Add a little liquid to each side you just put together. This will make a square. Then take and whip the rest into a foamy consistancy. Smear this nice foamy wax onto your square of candle. It looks kind of like snow. Cover on all four sides and top. Roll the wick onto a pencil hand let it rest on something to keep wick straight. Cover top with foamy wax. You may add fine glitter to this if you wish. Try adding color to the melted wax before you whip it. Let sit to dry. Once dry cut the wick to about 1/2 inch. This is a quick and easy gift for someone. With Beeswax, you put your wick on the edge of the sheet of wax. Roll into a taper or contiue to make a large pillar. The beeswax and all waxes can be found at your local craft stores. See you next week! It will be a surprise!
